Episode 2- The Unspoken Gap in Immigrant Retirement Savings
In this episode of The Immigrant Bag, I take a look at the gap in immigrants' retirement savings that you do not normally hear people talk about. In many cases, immigrants who relocate in their 30s or 40s, have many years of retirement savings to catch up on. To put in it perspective, an average 43 year old who has been working in Canada since college has about a whole 20 year head start on a 43 year old immigrant who has only been working here for a couple of years.
Retirement savings is a huge topic that cannot be discussed exhaustively in one episode. I try to scratch the surface just enough to catalyze a positive reflection on the issue while also discussing potential mitigation strategies.
